Republican Tony Kosub Kicks-Off State Representative Campaign

Kosub Running To Give Republicans A Choice Against Tolls, Taxes, and Tuition Hikes

(SAN ANTONIO, TX, January 26, 2008) Republican Tony Kosub held a campaign kick-off in Hollywood Park today. Kosub, an 8th grade English teacher and coach, flanked with enthusiastic friends, family, colleagues, and supporters began his quest to un-seat incumbent Frank Corte. Kosub also snagged the endorsement of the San Antonio Toll Party, and many Toll Party members came in a show of support. Volunteers went door to door in Hollywood Park following the campaign kick-off.

"I'm running to offer the people of the 122nd District a choice to elect a real conservative Republican. I'm running because if the Republican party doesn't provide a positive agenda for Texas families, we are going to lose the majority we worked so hard to gain," said Kosub who has traveled the district and heard voter outrage over Frank Corte's record which includes increasing the taxes on small businesses by voting for the gross income tax (HB 3), his votes to increase taxes on families and businesses by supporting toll roads, and voting to increase the cost of state higher education.

Kosub continued, "Republicans now have a choice between a vote for a tax and spend Republican in Frank Corte or a vote for me, a Republican who wants to lower the tax burden. I have the courage to stand with the people and make our government work for you rather than you working to pay the government."

Today, Kosub launched a new web video with a strong "Principle over Power" message in addition to his video reaching out to small businesses, "Prosperity for People." Kosub's campaign was already in full swing as he and volunteers have already been fundraising, blockwalking, and phonebanking across House District 122. Kosub believes his grassroots organization will catch Corte, who hasn't received serious opposition by a Republican before, flatfooted.

Last week, Kosub launched his new website (www.TonyKosub.com and www.TaxpayersForTony.com), which provides video messages from Tony, his positions on the issues, more on his background and testimonials from supporters like Jana Hipsher. She highlighted that, "Tony Kosub is a man of integrity, honesty and strong moral beliefs. He is committed to change and I firmly believe that Tony will talk to, listen to, and be available to the people of his district. He'll work as long and as hard as necessary to make Texas a place that we can again be proud to call home by doing what he knows is right for families."

Born in San Antonio, Tony Kosub is the oldest of five children, and his parents moved to the La Vernia area when he was a young child. He has strong Christian values and he attends Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Additionally, growing up the grandson of a farmer and rancher, Tony learned to build fence, handle livestock, and appreciate living close to the land. Beginning at a young age, Tony's values were shaped by faith, family, and hard work. Kosub was graduated from Texas Lutheran University (TLU) in Seguin, played football for TLU and earned all conference honors and the prestigious Captain Thomas Eddy Character Award. He also holds a master's degree in Educational Administration from Texas A&M University at Kingsville. He has been active in water issues in La Vernia and is a proud member of the San Antonio Toll Party.

Kosub hopes his message will rally Republicans to realize that they can have a better representative in District 122, "Join me and we can end the corruption and cronyism that is strangling the pocketbooks of our families. We must be the can-do party and I'm asking you to join me in that mission. We can be truly pro-life — protecting the unborn and stopping the taxes that are not pro-family. We can be pro-business and still protect private property rights enshrined in our Constitution. We can reverse the trend of bigger government and usher in the day that our state is truly living the American dream of hard work and personal responsibility because we keep the door of opportunity open for higher education in our information economy.

Kosub concluded proclaiming, "But we can only achieve these things if we have the courage to stand with the people. I'm asking for your support to help me run a positive and optimistic campaign focused on the issues affecting you. I'm not a career politician but I am someone who has made of a career of shaping our future and I ask for your prayers and involvement in our campaign as we seek the high calling of public service."
